Honor View 10 gets facial unlock via software update
Huawei's sub-brand Honor launched the artificial intelligence infused Honor View 10 in India a few days ago for a tantalizing price of Rs 29,999. Now the company has announced that the View 10 will be getting facial unlock via a software update. In fact, the rollout of the update has already started and will continue till January 24, 2018.
Honor followed in the footsteps of the iPhone X and OnePlus 5T and equipped the V10 with facial recognition skills. However, the feature could only be used to hide sensitive notifications. Now View 10 users will finally be able to unlock their smartphone using their face.
The Honor View 10's facial recognition has some tricks up its sleeve - If your eyes are closed, the screen will not be unlocked and as mentioned above the facial recognition can be used to hide sensitive notifications on the lockscreen. Another nifty feature keeps the screen on when you are reading content and turns it off when it detects you are done reading.
The Honor View 10 is powered by Huawei's own Kirin 970 processor which comes with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit that powers complex artificial intelligence features such as advanced scene detection, voice recognition and natural language processing. It comes with 6GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card and a 3,750mAh battery with fast charging support.
The Honor View 10 runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Huawei's custom EMUI 8.0 skin on top. On the imaging front, the smartphone comes with a dual camera setup at the rear - a 16MP primary RGB (color) sensor alongside a 20MP secondary monochrome (black and white sensor). There is a single 13MP camera on the front that allows for the capture of bokeh shots via software algorithms.
