Aadhaar card address updation process: How to do it online

The self-service update portal is one of the various touch points to update user's address in Aadhaar.
Want to change your address in your Aadhaar card? Not sure how to go about it? Wondering where and how to get it done? Worry not, Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI) offers tools by which you can change/update your address online, sitting right in your home. UIDAI is the government agency that serves as the issuing authority for 12-digit Aadhaar identification numbers (UIDs) and cards.

This means that you need not visit any authorised Aadhaar enrollment/update center or any other government agency for any change that you need to make in your address in your Aadhaar. Aadhaar holders can do the same on UIDAI's Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal. The self-service update portal is one of the various touch points to update user's address in Aadhaar. Please note that as per UIDAI, update here refers to any "changes as well as corrections, if required, in residentæ„€ original Aadhaar letter."

Here are the simple steps that need to followed to make the address change online (on UIDAI's website):

STEP 1: Login to the UIDAI's website. Remember you will need your registered mobile number to update address using this portal. Registered mobile number is mandatory to receive password for login. As the OTP is sent on this number. This means that you will not be able to make the address change if you do not have a registered mobile number on your Aadhaar. In such case, you will have to visit the nearest Update Centre.

Step 2: Enter your Aadhaar number.

STEP 3: Put in the address update request. Remember that residents can only update Address through this portal. For any other update/updates, they need to visit Aadhaar Enrollment/Update Center. In case you face any issues with the Pin Code and related data (State/District/Village/Town/City/Post office), you can contact UIDAI contact centre (help@uidai.gov.in).

STEP 4: Upload all the documents required to be submitted along with the address update request. Remember, that you are required to fill the complete address and upload supporting PoA (proof of address) even if you want to update/correct only C/o (care/of) details. Upload original scanned (with color scanner) copies of PoA document as per the documents list given on the website. The website has a list of almost 30 documenmts that you can share s proof of address.

STEP 5: Select the BPO service provider and submit your request.
Another point to remember here is that submission of the information for update does not guarantee the update of Aadhaar data. The information (request) submitted online is subject to verification and validation.

The statutory authority UIDAI is responsible for Aadhaar enrolment and authentication, including operation and management of all stages of Aadhaar life cycle, developing the policy, procedure and system for issuing Aadhaar numbers to individuals. It is also responsible to perform authentication as well as required to ensure the security of identity information and authentication records of every citizen of the country (holding Aadhaar card).
