Microsoft launches Xbox One X in India at Rs 44,990: All you need to know about the new gaming console

Microsoft has launched the Xbox One X in India. The console is priced at Rs 44,990 and will be available both online and offline. To put things into perspective, the Xbox One X is available internationally for $500 (Rs 32,000 approximately, directly converted). However, you should be aware that the price of $500 is before tax. The India price is about Rs 10,000 more than the US price which is in line with the India price of PC hardware.
The new console boasts of 6 teraflops of graphical prowess. To put this into perspective, the PS4 Pro boasts of 4.2 teraflops of graphical power. To achieve these powerful graphical abilities, Microsoft is using a custom GPU engine that runs at 1172 MHz on the Xbox One X. The console will ship with an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive (something the PS4 Pro lacks) for 4K movies, and a 1TB HDD. The One X has eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz. Coming to the RAM, the device has 12GB GDDR5 memory. The memory bandwidth of the RAM is 326GB/s. You can check out our breakdown of the Xbox One X’s specifications here
It’s nice to see Microsoft launch the Xbox One X a mere two months after its international debut. If you are wondering, yes, the Xbox One S is still selling in India between Rs 22,000 andRs 30,000 approximately depending on the bundle you choose.
Will my current Xbox Games work on theOne X?

Yes. Backwards compatibility is something Microsoft has worked very hard on. Your current Xbox games will run on the One X but don’t expect them to magically run at 4K 60fps. That’s up to the developer to patch. Although, you should see some improvements in load times. Games that support dynamic resolution will work better on the One X out of the box, without a patch from the developer when compared to the One or the One S. So for example games like Battlefield 1 and Doom work with a dynamic resolution to maintain frame rates. If the action gets too hot on screen, the resolution of the game is lowered to maintain the desired frame rate be it 30fps or 60fps. In the case of One X, your current Xbox games will run at the maximum frame rate and resolution as intended by the game engine. It’s pretty similar to how boost mode works on the PS4 Pro. Although, you need to enable boost mode from the settings of the PS4 Pro. On the Xbox One X, you don’t need to do anything in the settings to take advantage of the hardware. The Xbox One X is backwards compatible with a large library of Xbox 360 and some orignal (first generation) Xbox games

Will there be Xbox One X exclusives?
As of now, that doesn't seem to be the case. Just like the PS4 and PS4 Pro, all the games that will launch in the near future will run on the Xbox One, Xbox One S and theone X. They will however run best on the One X, thanks to the hardware at the consoles disposal. There will be games exclusive to Microsoft’s platform but they will run on the Xbox One, One S and One X along with Windows (thanks to Microsoft’s play anywhere initiative). This will include franchises like Gears of WarHalo, and more.
What about my Blu-ray movies?
Your current 1080p blu-ray movies will work on theone X. You can also play UHD blu-ray movies on the One X and the Xbox One S, something the PS4 Pro lacks. Remember, UHD blu-ray playback is not available on the original Xbox One.
Can I expand the storage of the Xbox One X?
Yes, you can but not the internal hard drive. As mentioned above, the system comes with a 1TB HDD of which users get a little more than 800GB for games. You can use a USB 3 external hard drive to store and play games on the console. You can connect any USB 3 hard drive, even a 6TB one. We have been using the One X with a 2TB external hard drive and have faced no problems with load times. The experience is smooth whether you run the game off the internal drive or the external drive. It is advisable to invest in an external hard drive as some Xbox One X enhanced games can take up as much as 100GB.
Does theone X support Dolby Atmos?
Yes, it does. And if the game supports Dolby Atmos encoding then you can make the most of your Dolby Atmos home theatre or Doly Atmos enabled headphones too. As of now, there are a handful of games that support Dolby Atmos. Overwatch is one of them. Dolby Atmos enabled Blu-ray movies will work on the console too. You need to purchase the Dolby Atmos app from the store on your console to enable the feature.
Is Microsoft giving any free games with the Xbox One X?
Sadly, no. There are no bundles that have been announced for the console. You will spend about 45k on the console, but it does come with 14 days Xbox Gold membership trial and 14 days Xbox Game pass in the box. With Xbox Gold, you can play online with your friends. You also get about 5 free games every month with your Gold membership. That includes three Xbox One titles and two Xbox 360 titles, which you can play using backwards compatibility. You don’t have a say as to which games you get free every month. That is decided by Microsoft. Remember, if you stop your subscription, you can’t keep playing these games that are a part of games with Gold. Being a Gold member, you get special discounts on games every month.
Xbox Live Gold membership is priced at Rs 699 per month, or you can pay Rs 3999 for 12 months in one go.
Xbox Game Pass
Xbox Game pass is a Netflix-like subscription service for games. You pay Rs 699 per month (this is separate from your Gold subscription) and you get access to a large library of games (more than a hundred) to download and play. The library is refreshed every month (just like Netflix). This doesn’t mean that all the games change every month. A few are added and a few are removed. If you like a game that you are playing with Game Pass and would like to own it, you will get it for a discount. This is a great option for those that are new to gaming and new to Xbox and want instant access to a large library of good games and don’t want to spend a bomb on them overnight.

Samsung Galaxy S9 camera info leaked

Samsung revealed information about its new range of camera sensors on its website. It's likely that the Galaxy S9 will feature some of the new technology of the new sensors.

The latest leak about the Galaxy S9 has ironically come from Samsung’s own website. In the run-up to the launch of the phone at an event in Barcelona, we now have more information on the camera hardware of the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus.
the website revealed Samsung Semiconductor’s new ISOCELL range of camera sensor, and one of them is likely to feature in the upcoming flagship. Among them, one of the sensors can record and process videos at super-high speed. The website names it ISOCELL Fast that is essentially a 3-stack fast readout sensor that can record videos in Full HD at 480 frames per second. This indicates the phone can record super slo-mo videos at high resolution.
Another hardware improvement in the sensor is something called SuperPD that will apparently improve autofocus speeds of the cameras.

Another sensor is the ISOCELL Bright that is supposedly for low-light shots. The sensor will combine four normal-sized pixels into one large pixel, which is not really a new thing.
The ISOCELL dual, also mentioned in the website, will expectedly improve the dual camera performance with better light sensitivity, depth effect and sharper brightness.
Lastly, there is ISOCELL Slim that will allow high-quality images on cameras with modules as small as 0.9 microns.
Going by the recent leak of the retail box, the Galaxy S9 is likely to come with 12-megapixel rear cameras with OIS and variable apertures. The box also mentions a Super Slow-mo feature, that corroborates with the capabilities of the ISOCELL Fast sensor mentioned above.
The Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ will launch at the sidelines of MWC in Barcelona at the end of February.

KFC introduces 'drone packaging' in India

NEW DELHI: KFC, the global quick service restaurant chain, has rolled out new KFC Smoky wings at select KFC outlets across ten cities. The interesting part is that you could get your food in a super cool packaging that turns into a flying drone, powered by your smartphone.

The 'KFO or Kentucky Flying Object' is a red and white snazzy packaging for the KFC Smoky Wings and has detachable parts that are easy to assemble. With an online user manual, assembly and installation is pretty quick and easy. Once you have assembled all the parts, all you need to do is turn the power on, connect it to your smartphone via Bluetooth and the KFO is ready to fly.

Lucky customers can win the KFO, when they order Smoky Grilled Wings on January 25 and January 26 across 12 stores in 10 cities in the country.
Commenting on the launch, Lluis Ruiz Ribot, CMO, KFC India, said "Food and technology, are two things that keep us and our consumers excited. To celebrate the introduction of our new scrumptious Smoky Grilled Wings, we are launching a limited edition KFO box. It is super cool packaging that converts into a drone"

Just in case your stars don't shine, we hear KFC might selling the product on their official website online.kfc.co.in too next week.

Last year also, KFC introduced a new ordering system in order to enhance the user experience. The fast food chain giant launched the One-Click ordering system with a physical and virtual, KFC One-Click Button.

The physical KFC One-Click button enabled customers to order their favourite KFC menu items, with just a simple click. Customers have to setup the button and connect it to Wi-Fi and load their favourite order. The company gave this button to 2,000 loyal customers last year.

Are people losing trust in social media?

The 2018 edition of the Edelman Trust Barometer, released on Monday, measures the public's trust in four different institutions/ business (economic well-being), government (national security and public policy), media (information and knowledge) and NGOs (social causes and issues).

The 2018 edition of the Edelman Trust Barometer was released on the Monday with disappointing results for the U.S. and social media platforms.

The Edelman Trust Barometer measures the public's trust in four different institutions; business (economic well-being), government (national security and public policy), media (information and knowledge) and NGOs (social causes and issues). Edelman has been conducting these surveys in 28 different countries and have accumulated 18 years of data from over 33,000 respondents.
This year's survey shows that media is now the least trusted institution globally, with 22 out of 28 countries claiming it is distrusted. The considerable drop is said to be primarily driven by the lack of faith in platforms, most of all, social media and search engines.

For 63% of those asked could not tell apart good journalism from a respected media organisation from the fake news and rumours. As well as almost 70% of respondents were concerned about false information being exploited and used as a weapon.

On a positive note, the Edelman Trust Barometer did show that although trust in platforms declines, the trust in journalism rebounds. From 2017 to 2018, journalism has gained 5 points.

Overall, the report shows that the general public in 20 out of 28 countries are distrusters, especially in the US where the Barometer shows its steepest decline yet with a 23-point drop, placing US below Russia and South Africa on the index. The general public (18 years or over) in China however do not feel the same as China gains 7 points, placing it in the top few countries on all the indexes. These are the results from over 500 people being surveyed for approximately 30 minutes in US and China, whereas 200 were asked in the other countries.

WhatsApp for Business launched in India, here’s how to setup your account

WhatsApp's all-new app -- WhatsApp for Business -- is now available in India. Users in the country can download the app from Google Play Store. The app, after months of testing, was made official late last week for select countries. WhatsApp for Business app allows small businesses to interact with customers as well as manage their presence on the platform. The Facebook-owned company introduced the app in September last year and started testing it with some companies in India and other regions. Now that the app is officially out, here's every detail about the app that you need to know...

WhatsApp for Business app aims to make it easier for small businesses to communicate with their customers.

In the official blog post, the company said that India and Brazil are two of its biggest markets. The company has now made the app available for SMEs in India. The app is available for download on Google Play Store.

Other countries it has been rolled out in include US, UK, Italy, Indonesia and Mexico.

The logo of the app has also been modified to show a 'B' inside the WhatsApp logo, clearing out the app’s intention. This will also help users to recoginise that the message is from a business account.

WhatsApp for Business is build on the same platform as the WhatsApp Messenger, it however, boasts of some additional features as well. These include Verified Profiles along with features like Quick Replies, Greeting Messages and Away Messages. Businesses can also access messaging statistics for a given period of time.

WhatsApp started the pilot program in September last year. In India, the company reportedly tested the feature with BookMyShow and MakeMyTrip.

WhatsApp for Business app is so far available only for Android users. However, the company has said that it plans to roll out the app to other platforms as well. However, it has so far not given any timeline for this.

Yes, WhatsApp for Business is completely free for now. The app can be downloaded free of cost from Google Play Store and there is no in-app purchases to access restricted content or features.

If you are not a business owner, you don’t need to to download any new app on your smartphones to access this. Users can continue using the existing WhatsApp app to get in touch with the business’ accounts. The businesses, however, will need to download the app and register themselves before getting in touch with their customers.

With this new app, companies can create their own profile and feed information such as location, business category, description, email address, website, business hours and more. It might take some time to get the account verified though.

The new WhatsApp app also allows users to track information like the number of messages they have sent, the ones delivered, messages read and received across groups and individual chats. Users can also send and receive messages with WhatsApp Business on desktops.

Will Artificial Intelligence take over jobs?

Will Artificial Intelligence take over jobs?

Will Artificial Intelligence take over jobs?

Artificial intelligence (AI) can generate X-ray reports at Max Healthcare. This evolving tool — in beta stage at present — is being programmed with radiologists' knowhow, by scanning millions of patient records. And though it may not yet be able to read the blur on the film as tuberculosis, in five years, AI could make that interpretation as well.

On PolicyBazaar.com, almost 70% of motor insurance policies are sold by bots. HDFC Bank products such as 'loan in 10 seconds' are processed by machines. At travel platform Ixigo, bots handle most queries without people realising. Machines are adept at checking chances of a waitlisted ticked being confirmed, lowest fares, best time to book tickets and so on. There's no human involved at any stage.

Apollo Munich, Birla Sun Life, ICICI Lombard GIC, Maruti, Yes Bank and many others are actively using AI in daily business — improving productivity and scale. Ritesh Pai, chief digital officer, Yes Bank, sees AI platforms do voluminous repetitive tasks and improve 24x7 functioning by servicing even NRI customers, in any times zone. "AI is an opportunity companies can use to their advantage," says Pai.

GETTING PERSONAL AGAIN
AI, or the ability of machines to mimic the human mind, is slowly but surely invading corporate workplaces. Arup Roy, research director, Gartner, says, "Machines are enabling intelligent conversations. Banks, insurance companies, wealth management firms, ecommerce and retail firms are extensively using machines for predictive analysis, sales and so on." Healthcare AI can diagnose, assist with medication reminders and even develop treatment pathways for diabetes or cancer. In not so distant future, "machines could ease pain for doctors to sift through past records (which machines will do) and focus more on critical healthcare needs," says Rohit Kapoor chief growth officer, Max Healthcare.
PolicyBazaar expects AI will be good to sell 85% of motor insurance policies over the next few months. It will soon start automating sale of health, term and other policies. Ashish Gupta, chief technology officer, PolicyBazaar, says, "AI is transforming the way we work." The motivation is not just to keep customer acquisition costs low but also ensure that if business grows 100%, manpower expands merely 10-15%.
HDFC Bank machines have journeyed from assisting humans by sending alerts to taking over repetitive processes such as monthly account balance updates or cheque book requests. Today, they can check on loan eligibility or create a risk profile of a customer. Processing loans, which took at least two months earlier, is now done in seconds, minutes or just a couple of days.

Nitin Chugh, country head, digital banking, HDFC Bank, says, "Banking used to be a very personal experience. Digital made it impersonal. But now with AI and customisation, it's becoming personal again." The bank's AI chatbot, Eva, has already handled more than five million queries with 85% or higher accuracy. Analysts predict that by 2020, AI technology will be virtually pervasive in almost every new software product and service. Gartner predicts AI to be among top five investment priorities for more than 30% of chief information officers by then.

SCALING CHALLENGES
However, there are certain limitations to a machine that is not human, neither a clone, but a very clever software. It can mimic basic functions and is good at repetitive tasks, but need a lot more time to fathom the complexity of human interactions. For instance, at Max hospitals which is beta testing machine applications, AI algorithms are tested by radiologists and tweaked if need be to improve their knowledge.

Even if the AI tool is as accurate as a human, hospitals don't want to take chances and have both humans and machines working together. Though this could change ushering in a leap for AI from labs to reality. Machines have comprehension issues with typographical errors, colloquial interactions and languages other than English or Hindi. The PolicyBazaar AI tool — based on Google platform API.ai and rebranded as Dialogflow — works well in English and Hindi but not regional languages.

The insurance platform has now started training it in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. Besides, Gupta does not see AI assisting beyond 85% of PolicyBazaar's sales. "We need natural language processing, which may not be good enough to close all sales call," he adds. If you want a loan in 10 seconds, there's no room to negotiate. To take care of nuances such as a lower interest rate or deferred payment plan, a human will have to step in.

Nonetheless, "The future needs to keep pace with technology," says Chugh of HDFC. In tasks where a human does not add value to the company, the machine is going to be its most valuable asset. It improves productivity, cuts costs and helps deploy humans in more 'thinking' roles. Kumar of Ixigo believes we are already in an era of hyper-personalised experiences. So while it may be artificial, it's still intelligence.

Will Artificial Intelligence Take My Job?

Technology versus employment is an age-old debate. But it's becoming more and more real with each passing year, as companies lean towards automation to improve productivity and margins. Consider the numbers. A bank recently shrunk its card reconciliation team from 200 to just five. A 500MW thermal power unit manages with just 200 people today, compared with 2,000 a decade ago. PolicyBazaar plans to double its business without adding much headcount.

Thanks to AI, bots and algorithms, jobs are disappearing at an ostensibly faster pace than they are being created. K Sudarshan, managing partner, EMA Partners International, a C-level headhunter, says, "Operations across companies will be impacted by use of AI." A corporate honcho who wished not to be named quips, "I would not want to be in college at this time." However, Manish Sabharwal, chairman of TeamLease Services, the largest temp staffing company in India, feels, "AI might be relevant at company level but not at country level." He points to India's low per capita income of about $1,650, where World Bank ranked India 112th of 164 countries.

Countries with higher per capita income (such as US with $45,000, Singapore with $50,000 or UK at $37,000) will use more AI platforms than India, as their labour costs are very high. In fact, Sabharwal sees technology workforce doubling to 8 million in just five years as more companies adopt technology tools. Ritesh Pai, chief digital officer, YES Bank, says, "When video conferencing started (back in the mid-1990s), people thought corporate travel will reduce, but that has actually grown 20% on-year. AI will assist humans, while humans will step in whenever complexity increases."

AI doesn't just take over jobs; it creates new ones. For instance, a German automaker in India has a 15,000 team with 1,000 engaged in making cars — the rest in coding. In India, manufacturing employment may peak at 17-20% of the total jobs — up from 11% at present — while most new jobs will be in the services sector. It may well end up being a question of reskilling, rather than losing your job to AI.

Google's Hangouts Meet video calls are now available on tablets

Google's Hangouts Meet video calls are now available on tablets

Google's enterprise-centric version of its Hangouts, called the Hangouts Meet, is now officially compatible with Apple iPads and Android tablets.

This development comes almost after a year after Google split the Hangouts platform into two services: Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat.
The video-conferencing application Hangouts Meet allows up to 50 users in a single-video call. Users can initiate a meeting with a shared link without creating any accounts or installing any extra plug-ins.
To recall, Google had launched Hangouts Meet in March 2017. While it had its fair share of features, the absence of tablet support was a bit of a surprise. The updated Meet app has started to roll out from January 22 and is one of the latest additions. Google has been laying a lot of emphasis on its business-focussed G Suite tool. Earlier in July 2017, it incorporated the in-conference messaging features where participants could share messages and links in a slide-out tab and dial in support for phones which weren't compatible with the Hangouts Meet app. A few months later in November it increased the number of video chat participants from 30 to 50.

Google's other video chat mobile app, Google Duo, is also in the process of getting new features. Users on Reddit have spotted the app to be working on smartphones, which don't even have the app installed. Some even mentioned that it comes as a part of the stock dialler and lets users call non-Google Duo users. After the call ends, they would see a pop up to install the app.

In 2018, the search gaint also introduced a new digital payment service called Google Pay. The service comes as a mix of two of its existing payment services - Android Pay and Google Wallet. Google Pay aims to make it simpler for international users to pay for different services online.

Facebook to emphasize ‘trustworthy’ news via user surveys

January 22, 2018 0
Facebook to emphasize ‘trustworthy’ news via user surveys

Facebook to emphasize ‘trustworthy’ news via user surveysFacebook is taking another step to try to make itself more socially beneficial, saying it will boost news sources that its users rate as trustworthy in surveys. In a blog post and a Facebook post from CEO Mark Zuckerberg Friday, the company said it is surveying users about their familiarity with and trust in news sources. That data will influence what others see in their news feeds.

It’s the second major tweak to Facebook’s algorithm announced this month. The social-media giant, a major source of news for users, has struggled to deal with an uproar over fake news and Russian-linked posts, meant to influence the 2016 US elections, on its platform. The company has slowly acknowledged its role in that foreign interference. Zuckerberg has said his goal for this year is to fix Facebook, whether by protecting against foreign interference and abuse or by making users feel better about how they spend time on Facebook.
Facebook announced last week that it would try to have users see fewer posts from publishers, businesses and celebrities, and more from friends and family. Zuckerberg said Friday because of that, news posts will make up 4 percent of the news feed, down from 5 percent today. Facebook says it will start prioritizing news sources deemed trustworthy in the US and then internationally. It says it has surveyed a ‘diverse and representative sample’ of US users and next week it will begin testing prioritizing the news sources deemed trustworthy. Publishers with lower scores may see a drop in their distribution across Facebook.
“There’s too much sensationalism, misinformation and polarization in the world today. Social media enables people to spread information faster than ever before, and if we don’t specifically tackle these problems, then we end up amplifying them. That’s why it’s important that News Feed promotes high quality news that helps build a sense of common ground,” Zuckerberg wrote. Of course, there are worries that survey-takers will try to game the system, or that they just won’t be able to differentiate between high-quality and low-quality news sources — an issue made evident by the spread of many fake-news items in the past few years.

Zuckerberg says that some news organizations ‘are only broadly trusted by their readers or watchers, and others are broadly trusted across society even by those who don’t follow them directly.’ But this is complicated. In the US, there has been a growing partisan split in perceptions of the media . Roughly a third of Democrats in early 2017 said they trusted information from national news organizations a lot; only 11 percent of Republicans did, according to Pew Research Center; that gap had grown from early 2016. Facebook’s move is a positive one, but that it’s not clear how effective this system will be in identifying trustworthy news sources, David Chavern, CEO of the news media trade group News Media Alliance, said in a statement Friday.

Google, YouTube CEOs ‘working harder’ to clear inappropriate content before US Congress polls

The chief executive officers of Alphabet Inc’s Google and YouTube pledged to scour videos and other content more closely for misleading news and inappropriate messages on their web services ahead of elections in the US later this year. “We have more elections coming, so we’re all working harder,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said during an interview at an event in San Francisco on Friday hosted by MSNBC and Recode. “We feel a huge sense of responsibility.”
Later this year, midterm elections will determine which party runs Congress, now controlled by Republicans. YouTube chief Susan Wojcicki said the online video service is trying to hire as many employees as possible to scrutinize videos in tandem with computers running artificial-intelligence software to identify and quickly remove offensive and inaccurate material.
“It has to be humans and you need to have those machines,” she said.
Google’s search engine and its news-aggregation service have been criticized for showing misleading answers and distributing false stories online. Meanwhile, YouTube is facing one of the worst crises in its roughly 18-year existence after advertisers found their marketing messages running alongside extremist and offensive videos. YouTube has also been swept up in investigations into whether Russia used social media to influence the 2016 presidential election.
“All of us are obviously very upset that somebody could have influenced the election,” Pichai said. However, he warned that it’s difficult for such a large company to decide what is true or false. “Drawing the line is becoming increasingly hard,” he said. “We’re a global company. We operate in many countries. People disagree.” Still, Pichai said extra scrutiny of technology companies is important to maintain trust.
“We all need to be careful,” he added. “We don’t want people to reject technology. Technology is the source of progress.”
Artificial intelligence is the most important technology, and the source of much anxiety about how work and broader human society will change, the CEO added. “It’s fair to be worried about AI,” Pichai said. “I don’t think any single company should control it.” Pichai noted that his cousin is training to be a radiologist, a job that AI is already beginning to automate. “This is going to make her job much easier. She’ll get to spend more time with patients,” he said.

The CEO has been promoting new ways to train the technology workers of tomorrow. Last year, Google committed $1 billion in grants and employee-volunteer hours over five years to use technology for education, economic opportunity and inclusion. Earlier this week, Google unveiled a new online education program to certify people for work in information technology support – positions with solid pay that don’t require full software coding skills. “It’s a new job category that didn’t exist before,” Pichai said on Friday. “Over time, the nature of work will change.
